English -We love reading! ‘Charlie & the Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Gruffalo and many more. We write ingredients, reports and our own fairy tales too. Maths - Lots of sums and tables too. We learn all about symmetry, shapes and graphs. We use our learning to help solve problems and carry out Investigations.
Science - We learn all about our body, discover amazing things about animals and minibeasts. We even design our own experiments and build models that move!
History - Mummies!! We discover what it was like to be an Ancient Egyptian, or the first people to live In Ireland. We create books filled with information and learn to research topics, select information and compare the past and present.
P.E - Football, games, swimming, dance and much more. We keep ourselves very fit!! (Just like our teacher)
Religion - We enjoy learning how to help and respect others, through music, drama and discussions. We love showing the rest of the school our work at Assembly on Friday mornings too. Each year, we find out more about our religion and the religions of other people.
ICT - Learning how to use the internet and being safe. Typing, creating graphs and making pictures.
Art - We study artists and have fun painting like them. Music - We compose our own Sound Stories like 'Mowgli in the Jungle', sing lots of songs and find out about music all over the World with Professor Allegro.
There’s lots of other activities to enjoy in Primary Five Thinking Skills - This year we have started to learn more about how we think and the skills that we use to work out problems and answer questions. We can use mind maps to help us and work in teams, to report back, encourage, record our ideas or be the timekeeper. This year we are using Planning Boards to plan our own learning!! Assessment for Learning - In our class, we use our WALT (We Are Learning To)and WILF (What I'm Looking For) to help us learn and focus upon our tasks. Our teachers give us thinking time and we use the 'thumbs up' rule to show how well we have understood. We record what we have learned in our Learning Diaries. Educating for Diversity - Our year group are looking forward to meeting up with our friends from Harmony Hill and St Aloysius to learn more about the different cultures in each of our schools. |
