We have lots of fun learning in Primary Four with Miss Clarke and Miss Hearty.

Literacy: We read lots of stories together in Primary Four, like 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We do lots of interesting activities related to these books. In our groups, we read novels such as 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark' and 'The Hodgeheg'. In Primary Four we also love to read for enjoyment everyday, through Silent Reading. We can choose many books from our wonderful class libraries!   We write in lots of different styles, including recount, procedural, exposition, explanation, report and narrative. We enjoy using bossy verbs in instructions and using our imaginations during narrative writing!

Numeracy:
We love doing practical activities, solving problems and working together in groups.
In Primary Four we learn all about multiplication and division and numbers up to 999. We also draw graphs in our books and on the computer.  We have great fun learning how to measure in metres and centimetres. We even get to start every maths lesson with a mental maths game like number cowboys or Harry Potter!!

The World Around Us: We learn about ourselves and make beautiful Memory Boxes. We also learn about the 1950's and 60's and celebrations. World War Two is one of our favourite topics! We even get to be evacuees for the day when we go to Castleward on our school trip. We also learn about living things, and get to go on a minibeast hunt around our school and in Castle Gardens.

The Arts: We are brilliant music makers in Primary Four!! We love learning about Elvis and the Beatles through our 1950's and 60's topic. We also enjoy making sound stories like 'Hairy Scary Castle'. We even learn how to play the Tin Whistle! At Christmas time we dramatise the Nativity Story and perform this through songs and drama at our Carol Service.

During our Art lessons, we learn about different artists and styles, such as Andy Warhol's Pop Art.

P.E: We have fun participating in gymnastics, dance, athletics and games throughout the year. We also have Fundamentals on a Tuesday which we love!.

ICT: We have a fantastic Interactive Whiteboard in our classroom this year which we love using. We also go to the computer suite once a week and use the laptops in our classrooms. We like to research on the internet and we are beginning to learn about Word Processing. We also enjoy using the digital cameras and the digital blue movie cameras. We even get to make a photostory and simple powerpoints using the pictures we have taken!

PDMU: We learn all about ourselves and our emotions. We have an emotion of the month that we learn all about and discuss. We watch the programme Sarah and the Whammi and discuss how Sarah and her friends are feeling.

Education for Diversity:  During the year we look forward to meeting with our friends from St Aloysius and Harmony Hill to learn about the different cultures in each of the schools.

Religion: We follow the Alive O 4 Programme and love to make up actions to go with our songs! This year is very special for us as we are going to make our First Holy Communion in May. We work really hard preparing for our special day, and we even make beautiful memory scrapbooks!!

Assessment for Learning:   In our class we use WALT(we are learning to) and WILF(What I'm Looking For) to help us become independent learners. Our teacher gives us thinking time and uses lolly pop sticks to give us all time to work out our answers. We use traffic lights and thumbs up to show that we understand what we are learning. Every Friday we write in our Learning Diaries to record what we have learnt during the week.
