Primary Three             Click here to see our Learning Plan for Primary 3

In St. Joseph's we have two Primary Three Classes. Our teachers are Mrs Connolly, Mrs Crilly and Mrs O'Hare.

After reading some of the things we do in P3 you'll wish you were in our class!

This year Primary 3 are preparing to make their First Confession. We think about the times we make the right and wrong decisions. Our families join with us as we say we are sorry and we will try to change.

In structured play a lot of activity based learning takes place. During the year we will have a Cafe, a Post Office, an old school and a Museum. We enjoy this time of the day because we have fun learning new things and skills.

Our class have many fun days out with friends from St. Aloysius and Harmony Hill, as we explore different themes through PDMU. This year we are going to learn about Remembrance Day, St. Patrick's Day and traditional dance from Ireland and Scotland.

In 'The World Around Us' we learn all about our senses, the weather, light, how toys move, materials and animal habitats. We plan our own investigations to find things out and we design and make our own models.

During our Literacy lessons we learn how to use new reading strategies to help us to read difficult words.  At Halloween we wrote our own witches potions and a recipe for chocolate apples. We  read 'Crocodile Tea' and we made a list for a Tea party.  We used lots of adjectives to describe the animals in the story.

When learning Maths we always do it in a fun way using practical activities and mental maths games. We love using our individual white boards and when we show them to our teachers they can immediately see if we understand the work we are doing and give us help, if we need it.

We have two new friends in Primary Three, they are WALT and WILF. WALT helps us remember what we are going to learn today and WILF helps us remember what we need to look for.  Our teachers give us 'Thinking Time' after question is asked.  We let our teachers know if we found our work hard or easy by using 'Traffic Lights' and 'Thumbs Up'.

We make lots of trips to our local library. We learn all about books and how to find them and are able to borrow books to bring home. We always finish off with a story. Before our visit to the zoo in June the zookeeper is bringing some of the animals to our school for us to have a closer look at.

We have a buddy system and our buddy's are in P5. We love being part of the big family here in St Joseph's and we love Primary Three.
